Contains the following type of materials: photographs. Covers the following wars: World War I (WWI); World War II (WWII). Contains photographs of the following military units: 301st Infantry Regiment, 76th Division, A.E.F; 357th ORTSU, First (1st) Army. General description of the collection: The John J. Maginnis photograph collection covers the military career of Major General Maginnis. There is also an album of photos showing destruction in France in 1917. Maginnis served in Europe during WWII and there are photos reflecting this service in the civil affairs area. There are photos of Paris immediately after its liberation in 1944 and photos of the early occupation of Berlin in 1945, including activities with the French and Russians. Among the post-WWII photos are reserve training scenes of the 357th ORTSU of the 1st Army at Fort Devens in 1950. Also included are social functions and reunions to 1971.

John J. Maginnis was a United States (U.S.) Army officer who served in World War I, World War II, and the Army Reserve. He was a lieutenant in the 301st Infantry Regiment, 76th Division in the American Expeditionary Forces (A.E.F.) during World War I. He served in Europe during World War II as a lieutenant colonel and colonel. He also served in Hainaut, Belgium and was so appreciated by the community that they made him an honorary citizen in 1967.
